EVERY FRIDAY in OCTOBER, Mi Corazon, “clean Mexican food made with LOVE!” will be donating 20% of all sale proceeds when the customer mentions “FRIENDS OF ATWATER fundraiser.” Dine in, take out, & note 5-7 PM Fridays is Happy Hour!

Announcing: Atwater Rep on the PAC!
This past Friday, Jennifer Martinez and Tova Goodman attended the Parent Advisory Committee elections and we are excited to announce that Jennifer, parent to Joshua and Juliet, has been elected to the PAC as an At-Large representative for district West!
The PAC oversees district spending to make sure LAUSD is making good on previous educational goals, and helps to draft language for future goals. It is very valuable for our small school to have access to this information and to have a parent voice on the committee. We hope she can help our community better understand how to advocate for our needs to the district.
El viernes pasado, Jennifer Martínez y Tova Goodman asistieron a las elecciones del Comité Asesor de Padres y estamos emocionados de anunciar que Jennifer, madre de Joshua y Juliet, ha sido elegida para el PAC como representante At-Large para el distrito Oeste.
El comitè supervisa el gasto del distrito para asegurarse de que el LAUSD cumpla con los objetivos educativos y ayuda a redactar el lenguaje para objetivos en el futuro. Es muy valioso para nuestra pequeña escuela tener acceso a esta información y contar con la voz de un padre en el comité. Esperamos que ells pueda ayudar a nuestra comunidad a comprender mejor cómo abogar por nuestras necesidades ante el distrito.

A lot has happened this past month!
Thank you to everyone who responded to the Norm Day calls to action and raised their voices to the LAUSD Board & District. As a result we were able to keep a teacher and prevent another teacher from being moved.
There is more work to be done to help our school avoid these Norm Day shuffles in the future and we will discuss this at our next Community Meeting. In the meantime, e-Choices applications open October 2nd. Please spread the word to your friends and neighbors, reach out to your preschool and let them know there are parents willing to come to their school and speak about our school. The next school tour is scheduled for Thursday, October 5th at 8:45 AM. This is limited to 15 families and they can RSVP by calling 323-665-5941.
Miss Carrie, the new art instructor FoAE funded began this past week! It was incredible to see the children run out of school that Wednesday beaming with pride. If your child did not have art this past Friday then they will be in the second semester rotation. Every child will experience art with Miss Carrie this year. Thank you to all our sponsors, community/family donors, and volunteers who made this possible!
Musica y Merienda also returned to campus this past Friday! Thank you to Xochitl and all the MyM volunteers for making this program possible. The plan is to have MyM on-campus the last Friday of every month. The date will be adjusted on weeks where we are off for holiday break. Caregivers are welcome to join between 12-1 PM on-campus. Please sign in at the main office. If your schedule doesn’t allow for an in-person visit, you can tune in via Instagram Live @musica.y.merienda.
Besides our Annual Yard Sale on 10/14 (see info above), mark your calendars for Friday, November 3rd 4-7 PM for our Fall Festival & Dia De Los Muertos Celebration marking 100+ years of community! This year fundraising will be able to take place on-campus. Invite your friends and neighbors - we’ll have a flyer to share soon! In the meantime, please sign up to contribute to the bake sale and/or work the event day-of. We need volunteers to work merch, bake sale, games, and the offrenda. We will also have live music thanks to The Helicopters & Musica y Merienda! Sign up for bake sale & day-of via the Fall Festival tab on this link.
Finally, we are thrilled to announce that Heather Matula & Rebecca Lehrer presented on Room Reps at a teacher staff meeting and teachers are beginning to sign up for the Room Rep pilot program. If you are interested in learning more about what it means to be a Room Rep for your child’s classroom, please add your name under the Room Rep tab HERE.
We look forward to seeing everyone at pick up, drop off, supporting our school on Fridays at the Mi Corazon D2D, the Yard Sale, Musica y Merienda, AND supporting our local neighborhood Trick or Treating on the Boolevard (see flyer at the end of this newsletter).

¡Mucho ha sucedido este último mes!
Gracias a todos los que respondieron a las llamadas para tomar acción del Día de Norm y alzaron sus voces ante la Junta y el Distrito del LAUSD. Como resultado, pudimos mantener a un profesor y evitar que otro fuera trasladado.
Todavía hay trabajo por hacer para ayudar a nuestra escuela a evitar estos cambios en el Día de Norm en el futuro, y discutiremos esto en nuestra próxima Reunión Comunitaria. Mientras tanto, las solicitudes para e-Choices se abren el 2 de octubre. Por favor, corran la voz entre sus amigos y vecinos, comuníquese con su preescolar y hágales saber que hay padres dispuestos a venir a su escuela y hablar sobre la nuestra. El próximo recorrido escolar está programado para el jueves 5 de octubre a las 8:45 AM. Esto está limitado a 15 familias y pueden confirmar su asistencia llamando al 323-665-5941.
La señorita Carrie, la nueva instructora de arte financiada por FoAE, comenzó la semana pasada! Fue increíble ver a los niños salir de la escuela el miércoles radiantes de orgullo. Si su hijo no tuvo arte el pasado viernes, estará en la rotación del segundo semestre. Cada niño tendra tiempo de arte con la señorita Carrie este año. ¡Gracias a todos nuestros patrocinadores, donantes de la comunidad/familia y voluntarios que hicieron esto posible!
¡Musica y Merienda también regresaron al campus el pasado viernes! Gracias a Xochitl y a todos los voluntarios de MyM por hacer posible este programa. El plan es tener MyM en el campus el último viernes de cada mes. La fecha se ajustará en semanas en las que tengamos vacaciones. Los cuidadores son bienvenidos a unirse entre las 12 y la 1 PM en el campus. Por favor, registre su entrada en la oficina principal. Si su horario no permite una visita en persona, puede sintonizar a través de Instagram Live @musica.y.merienda.
Nuestra Venta Anual de Garaje sera el 14 de octubre (ver información arriba), marquen sus calendarios para el viernes 3 de noviembre de 4 a 7 PM para nuestro Festival de Otoño y Celebración del Día de los Muertos marcando más de 100 años de comunidad. Este año la recaudación de fondos podrá tener lugar en el campus. Inviten a sus amigos y vecinos, ¡pronto tendremos un volante para compartir! Mientras tanto, por favor regístrese para contribuir a la venta de pasteles y/o trabajar en el evento el día de. Necesitamos voluntarios para trabajar en mercadería, venta de pasteles, juegos y el ofrenda. También tendremos música en vivo gracias a The Helicopters y Musica y Merienda. Finalmente, estamos emocionados de anunciar que Heather Matula y Rebecca Lehrer presentaron sobre los Representantes de Salón en una reunión y los maestros están comenzando a inscribirse en el programa piloto de Representantes de Salón. Si está interesado en obtener más información sobre lo que significa ser un Representante de Salón para el salón de su hijo, por favor agregue su nombre en la pestaña de Representantes de Salón AQUÍ.
